Manchester United received a surprise loan bid for misfit Alexis Sanchez but knocked it back instantly.

Brazilian champions Palmeiras expressed an interest in signing the Chilean on a temporary basis after seeing him endure a nightmare spell at Old Trafford since joining in January 2018.

But according to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Sanchez moving back to South America with Palmeiras has been "completely ruled out" by United because the Brazil's most successful club required the Red Devils to cover a good portion of his wages.

Sanchez is reported to earn £500,000-a-week at United, which is is said to be six times more than the wage Palmeiras' highest earner pockets.

Even though United signed him on a free in a deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to Arsenal, the fact that he's been poor so when he's on mega-bucks means there's genuinely a case for Sanchez being one of the worst signings in Premier League history.

The best player in the league at one stage, the former Barcelona and Udinese man has scored just five goals in 45 appearances for United - a monumental contrast to his tally of 80 goals in 166 games for Arsenal.

Sanchez is aware of how poor he's been, however, and apologised to United fans for not delivering at the end of the 2018/19 season.
