The theory comes after the Frenchman has been spotted watching United games sat next to chief executive Ed Woodward in the stands for the past few weeks.
Evra, who won five Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy in eight years United, has been without a club after leaving West Ham when his short-term contract with the East London club expired at the end of 2017/18.

United have been rumoured to be looking at bringing a Director of football, with former goalkeeper Edwin van Der Sar one of the names said to be in the mix.
