Roberto Firmino's Transfer Release Clause In His Contract Has Emerged

He's been in sensational form this season.

Liverpool fans will be hoping no big clubs come sniffing around for their No.9, Roberto Firmino, this summer.

But the fact the Brazilian has a release clause in his contract makes the negotiation process much tougher for the Reds.

Belgian outlet Le Soir, via Football Leaks reported a while back that the Brazilian has a massive €98 million euros release clause in his contract, which equates to around £83 million.

At the time when that information came about, which was halfway through Firmino's first season on Merseyside, the aforementioned fee would have been out of this world.

Yet because of the inflated transfer market, in addition to his stunning form this season, £83 million actually feels like a very good price for one of the very best forwards in the business.

According to WhoScored, the former Hoffenheim man has 26 goals and 13 assists to his name for Jurgen Klopp's charges term - most recently scoring two and making two in the incredible 5-2 Champions League semi-final first leg win over Roma at Anfield on Tuesday night.

While Liverpool have been looking to tie Firmino down to a new deal, something Jurgen Klopp has deemed to be "essential", the presence of an appealing release clause puts them in a rather precarious position.

Given his sensational run of form, and his tremendous workrate, you'd think that Firmino would have a lot of suitors in the summer even if Liverpool do win a sixth European Cup.

However, we can rule Arsenal out of the picture completely. That's because the Gunners are not allowed to trigger Firmino's release clause due to a strange detail in his contract.

It stems from the time Luis Suarez had a £40m release clause in his Liverpool and Arsenal subsequently bidding the necessary sum plus one pound, prompting the famous "What do you think they are smoking at the Emirates?" tweet from Liverpool owner John W.Henry.
