Liverpool missed out on the chance to win the Premier League title this season after Manchester City thrashed Brighton and Hove Albion 4-1 at the American Express Community Stadium.

Jürgen Klopp's men pushed Pep Guardiola's side right to the very end, but it was another blow for the Reds in the end.

In fact, Liverpool also hold another unfortunate achievement now.

The last three times a team has been at the top of the league on Christmas Day and missed out on the league title is none other than Liverpool.

That's right, the Reds were at the top of the table in the 2008-09, 2013-14 and 2018-19 campaigns, only to end up missing out on the title at the end.

Oh, and posted below is a screenshot of how each of those seasons ended.

While the Reds have missed out on the title, they can still look forward to their Champions League final clash against Tottenham Hotspur next month.
