Lionel Messi boasts an utterly outrageous tally of 563 goals in his career, many of which have been jaw-droppingly good.

A pretty sizeable portion of the five time Ballon d'Or winner's glorious goals have aroused us - from his insane solo goals to his awe-inspiring free-kicks.

It's fair to say that when whittling it down to his top 100 would be a pretty tough task, so it must have been incredibly difficult for Messi to pick his favourite ever goal scored.

However, he was asked to come to a decision during an interview with Mundo Deportivo and his selection may come as a surprise.

Messi went for his header against Manchester United in the 2009 Champions League final in Rome, when Xavi whipped in delicious cross to the far post for the Argentina to head home a succulent header past Edwin van Der Sar.

You can see why he's gone for it - it was a moment of sheer greatness and one that basically confirmed Pep Guardiola's first Champions League trophy in his stint as Barca boss.

But still, most fans would probably think of about 20 other Messi goals before they got to this header - stunning strikes against Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich immediately coming to mind.

Barcelona will travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday to face Manchester United in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash.
