Lionel Messi Averages A Goal And Assist Every 52 Minutes In La Liga This Season

Like a fine wine...

We are genuinely blessed to have seen Lionel Messi strut his stuff in a football pitch.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has accomplished pretty much everything there is to accomplish in football (barring an international tournament win with Argentina) but even at 31 years of age he's not showing any signs of decline in the slightest.

Messi leads both the goals and assists charts in La Liga this season, notching a ridiculous 25 goals while showcasing his innate playmaking abilities by registering 11 assists for his Barcelona teammates.

And today, against Sevilla, the Barcelona skipper dropped another masterclass by ruining the Andalusian outfit once more.

Jesus Navas put the hosts ahead in the 22nd minute but it wasn't long before the La Liga champions and league leaders were back on level terms courtesy of their talisman.

Messi was involved in the build-up (of course he was) and when the ball was floated back in by Ivan Rakitic, he finished off the move by displaying some quite unbelievable technique to volley home into the top bins.

Sevilla were in the lead again just before half-time through Gabriel Mercado but Messi fancied having his own goal of the month competition in the same game.

He curled in a beautiful strike with his right-foot and then turned the game around completely with a deft chip for his 36 in 3S5 games against Sevilla, his 50th career hat-trick and 650th career goal. Silly numbers.

He wasn't done there though as there was still time for Messi to supply a glorious lobbed assist for Luis Suarez to make it 4-2 and seal a brilliant comeback victory.

Even more impressively, Messi leads all the statistics in the top five European Leagues despite missing part of the season through injury.

Still only the fifth best player in the world though...
