The referee who aimed a kick-out at a Nantes player after being accidentally tripped, has received his punishment.

Last month, Tony Chapron became a viral sensation following his antics, which included him showing a second yellow and sending off Diego Carlos in the game against PSG.

The red card was subsequently rescinded but Chapron has not been let off the hook for his conduct. He's been hit with a six month ban, half of which has been suspended.

A French league disciplinary committee deemed the punishment to be acceptable and now the 45-year old, who has been a top flight referee for 14 years, faces a spell on the sidelines.

In fact, it'll be a big surprise if he ever officiates again as the BBC notes that he prior to his antics, he said the 2017/18 campaign would be his final season as a referee.

His explanation for the kick-out was absolutely ridiculous and didn't help his situation in the slightest.

Chapron said to AFP, via Get French Football: "When I collided with Diego Carlos, I felt a sharp pain in an area where I had suffered a recent injury. In a terrible reflex, I stretched out my leg to the player. This clumsy gesture was inappropriate."
