Would Liverpool fans want Steven Gerrard back in their team right now? At his peak no doubt but the now retired midfielder might be a step too slow for Jurgen Klopp's team. However anyone longing to see Gerrard back in a red top in front of the Kop will only have to wait a month.

Gerrard made 710 appearances for Liverpool before leaving the club at the end of the 2014-15 season. With first team opportunities becoming lessened for the midfielder under Brendan Rodgers he decided to leave for America.

He spent the last two seasons of his career with MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy but when his contract ran out in November he decided to call it a day with football, despite some offers.

Now working for BT as a pundit the former England captain has already returned to Liverpool to work as a coach with the academy but will actually be back playing at Anfield next month.

On Saturday March 25th Liverpool Legends team will face Real Madrid Legends in a charity match, and a rematch from the game in 2015 played at the Bernabeu.

Speaking about the match Gerrard told the club website: "I'm really looking forward to playing in the LFC Foundation legends charity match. Anfield will always hold a special place in my heart.

"It's a real honour to be sharing the pitch with such a great team of legends whilst raising money for the club's official charity."

The Liverpool team will be captained by Robbie Fowler whilst the club's all time top goalscorer Ian Rush will be player-manager on the day and the big names don't end there. Gary McAllister, Luis Garcia, Daniel Agger, Patrik Berger, Jerzy Dudek, Stephane Henchoz, John Arne Riise and Jamie Carragher are also amongst the names to feature.

It'll certainly be a treat for Liverpool fans to see their former captain back playing for them.

Which legend would you like to see return for your club?
