Sergio Ramos has added another impressive feat to his growing legacy after breaking a world record in Spain's 4-1 thrashing of the Faroe Islands.

The 33-year-old Real Madrid captain has shattered the record for most wins in international football for a player, notching up 122 victories in his 164th appearance for his country.

Ramos' former Los Blancos teammate and fellow countryman Iker Casillas held the previous record.

Behind Casillas and Ramos are Barcelona legends Xavi and Andrés Iniesta, who have 100 and 96 wins respectively.

But it looks like Ramos could build a long-lasting record with Spain, as the most realistic person to catch up to him is Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Juventus ace, who scored a superb hat-trick for Portugal to fire them into the Nations League final, has been on the winning side 92 times for his country.

Ramos has been on international duty with Spain for their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

The 33-year-old centre-back made his mark early on against Faroe Islands after burying a header to open the scoring for Luis Enrique's men.

Spain remain at the top of Group F and will play against second-placed Sweden in their next qualifier on Monday.

The Madrid star had reportedly been unsettled at Los Blancos near the end of the season and had initially told club president Florentino Pérez that he wanted to leave in the summer.

But that changed when the polarising Ramos made a sensational U-turn and committed his future to the club.

"I answer to end the doubts and debates that do not benefit the club or me or anyone else," he said at a press conference.

"I am Madridista. I want to retire here."

Is Ramos the best defender in the world?
