Spurs winger Erik Lamela has revealed what Spurs players said to one another when they were 2-0 down away at Juventus in the Champions League round of 16.

Mauricio Pochettino's side found themselves 2-0 down inside nine minutes, with Gonzalo Higuain bagging an early brace.

However, Spurs did not let their heads drop and continued playing.

Harry Kane pulled one back with his ninth goal in as many Champions League games in the 35th minute, before the visitors rode their luck on the stroke of half-time when Higuain went into Sunday League mode from the spot after a second Juventus penalty was awarded.

Spurs were by far the better side and got their deserved equaliser through Christian Eriksen's smart free-kick twenty minutes from time, giving the North Londoners a very good result ahead of the second leg.

Lamela, who was a surprise starter after only just working himself back into the first-team picture following a lengthy lay-off, says they never stopped believing.

"It was a big game and we played well - after the first 10 minutes, of course," he told Tottenham's official website.

"It was so difficult to come back after conceding two goals so quickly. We looked at each other and said 'the game cannot finish like this' and we changed things, started to go forward and after Harry's goal, we believed more and more.

"We looked to go forward all the time, created chances and showed character and this was the key to getting a draw. It was an unbelievable performance. We showed real personality."

Tottenham could have easily capitulated at the Allianz Stadium but their performance spoke volumes of how much they've come on under Pochettino.

Eriksen, the man who grabbed the all-important goal, said so himself.

"The games against the top teams when you are 2-0 down after nine minutes, you lost 6-0," he said when speaking to The Telegraph after the game.

"That's the thing we've changed with the manager coming in, with the players we have here. Everyone has grown up and they are not going to lie down if they are 2-0 down anyway.

"Tottenham has become, compared to what it was when I came to what it is now, completely different."
