Kylian Mbappe had his choice of clubs, this summer, with every major club in Europe being linked with the French teenager at some point over the last three months.

However, despite the opportunity to link up with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Marco Asensio and Luka Modric at European and Spanish champions Real Madrid, Mbappe opted to move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The former Monaco youngster helped fire the Monte Carlo club to the Ligue Un title, last season, scoring 26 goals in 44 games in all competitions. His rapid rise to prominence led to PSG parting with £165 million for his signature (at least they will do after an initial season-long loan deal is complete).

The move raised a few eyebrows, especially considering Mbappe could have moved to the Bernabeu, where he would have played in a better team in a stronger league. However, it turns out that the 18-year-old striker wished to make an impact in his own country rather than moving abroad.

Speaking on Telefoot, the world's second most expensive footballer said, via the Mirror, "Great players make history in their own country.

"If I had left France after six months I would have left as an eternal hope.

"When you come to Paris you are at a club that has the ambition to be the best in the world, you have come to a club that wants to play in all the competitions.

"I'm going to give everything I have got to make history with PSG."

Mbappe is second only to Neymar in the list of the world's most expensive footballers of all time, with his new Brazilian teammate arriving at the Parc des Princes for £198 million from Barcelona only a couple of weeks before Mbappe.

Speaking of the opportunity to play alongside the former Barcelona forward, Mbappe said, "Playing with Neymar is something extraordinary. PSG already interested me, but having Neymar is an additional boost."

Mbappe's absence from Monaco's first team squad this season hasn't exactly slowed the French champions down, with Leonardo Jardim's men winning their opening four league fixtures.

Will the 18-year-old wonderkid continue where he left off and be a huge success in the French capital or will he struggle to live up to his phenomenal price tag?
