Jose Mourinho Digs Out His Own Injured Defenders After Swansea Draw

Jose Mourinho Digs Out His Own Injured Defenders After Swansea Draw

Is this criticism too far?

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has taken a brutal swipe at defenders Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, with his comments leaving them all with an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Mourinho looked on from the sidelines today as his patched-up United side laboured to a 1-1 draw at home to relegation-threatened Swansea City, and two more names were added to the Red Devils' injury list.

Luke Shaw was forced off after just 7 minutes, whilst Eric Bailly was replaced after suffering a knock in the second-half.

It has been reported recently that Mourinho has asked Jones and Smalling to play through the pain barrier and make themselves available in the midst of a selection crisis, but when asked about the pair after today's game, Mou's response was telling:

The fact he wouldn't even talk about them, before inferring that whilst Mata is brave, they are not, speaks volumes.

After the match Mourinho continued his criticism of some injured players. Full back Shaw went off injured early in the match, and it's not the first time the former Southampton man has been injured.

Jose, who has often been critical of Shaw, said: "I think Luke Shaw's must be a big injury, because to leave the pitch after nine minutes, I am expecting a very big injury."

The England international had worked his way back into the manager's good books but that seems to have ended again. Eric Bailly who also went off injured avoided criticism.

The manager's comments left fans under no illusions at all regarding Smalling and Jones's future with United:
