Jordi Alba has responded to Pele after the Brazilian criticised Lionel Messi in incredibly bizarre fashion.

The 78-year old, who won three World Cups and scored 77 goals in 92 games for Brazil, claimed that Messi cannot use his weaker foot, cannot head the ball and only has one trick to his game.

"How can you make a comparison between a guy who heads the ball well, shoots with the left, shoots with the right and another who only shoots with one leg, only has one skill and doesn't head the ball well?" the former Santos forward told Folha de Sao Paulo, via The Mirror.

"How can you compare? To compare with Pele, it has to be someone who shoots well with the left, shoots well with the right, and scores headers."

Pele also stated that Diego Maradona was "much better" than Messi and has received a lot of backlash for his comments.

Messi himself is yet to fire back but his teammate Alba issued a strong response after Messi dropped his latest masterclass - scoring two stunning free-kicks and supplying a glorious assist for Ousmane Dembele.

Pele must not be able to see very well if he says what he says about Leo," the Barcelona left-back said, as per Sport.

"It seems like a lie that someone in the world of football could speak like that."

Former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker also had a damning take on Pele's astonishing attack, branding it "utter nonsense" and pointing out how contradictory his argument is.

There's no denying Pele is a legend but he really is coming across as a bitter old man.
