Andres Iniesta's final El Clasico was a special one but the Barcelona captain elected to not keep the shirt he wore and instead gave it to Real Madrid skipper, and his long-time Spain colleague, Sergio Ramos.

Ramos took to social media to share a picture of he and Iniesta's match-worn shirt, complete with a special message from the departing Iniesta.

"For my teammate, here's to our many moments together and others as rivals. Thank you and good luck!"

The Spain captain was involved in a typically feisty 2-2 draw between champions Barcelona and Real at the Nou Camp, where Sergi Roberto saw red.

He got into with Luis Suarez during the game, prompting Lionel Messi to take him out and get a yellow card for his challenge.

But despite tensions boiling, the 32-year old had the class to post a lovely message to his compatriot Iniesta, who he enjoyed the 2010 World Cup and 2008 and 2012 European Championship successes with.

"Beyond what happened on the pitch, last night's will be remembered as Iniesta's Clásico. You will be missed, my friend," was the message from Ramos.

Fair play to Iniesta for giving such a special shirt away and kudos to Ramos for the tribute.

Ramos' manager Zinedine Zidane also made a point of showing his apprecation to Iniesta, one of the all-time greats. He waited five minutes to hug the Barcelona No.8 in the tunnel after the game.
