Mauro Icardi has broken his silence and posted an interesting response to Inter Milan fans after his ongoing problems at the club.

The 25-year-old Argentine striker was dropped as club captain, with the armband being handed to Samir Handanović as his successor.

The former Inter captain also did not travel with the squad for their Europa League match with Rapid Wien on Thursday.

Icardi has now taken to his Instagram account to send I Nerazzurri fans a message.

Interestingly, the Argentina international has decided to quote the famous American author Mark Twain in his post.

"It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt," he wrote.

The Italian club defeated Rapid Wien 1-0 thanks to Lautaro Martínez scoring from the spot kick.

Prior to the match, Inter manager Luciano Spalletti revealed that Icardi did not want to travel with the squad for the match.

"The decision to remove the captaincy from Icardi was difficult and painful, absolutely shared by all the club members and taken for the good of Inter," he explained (via BBC Sport).

"He was called up for Vienna, but he did not want to be there.

"Things around him have disturbed him and the team he captained."

The former Sampdoria star's contract with Inter will keep him at the San Siro until 2021, though a number of clubs, including Juventus and Real Madrid, have shown an interest in him over the last few months.

However, the striker's current contract does include a €110m release clause, which can be activated from 1st July to 15th July.

Icardi's agent and wife, Wanda Nara, had been negotiating with his club over a new deal, though both parties have hit a roadblock in the contract talks.

FedeNerazzurra claims that comments made by Nara have caused quite a stir for the footballer at the club.

"I wish that the club could protect Mauro more because nasty things have come out from within," she reportedly said.

"Goals? He had little service by the team.

"Instead of [a] new contract, I would prefer Inter to sign someone that can give him five good balls a game."

Following on from the comments, the outlet has reported that the Inter star has been 'eating practically by himself at Appiano Gentile,' adding that he has been isolated from the rest of his teammates and that he is 'no longer the most present player in the dressing room.'

The Madrid and Juventus target's situation took a turn for the worse after news emerged that he had a confrontation with fellow teammate Ivan Perišić.

Should Icardi leave Inter in the summer? If so, which club should sign him?
