Jurgen Klopp not only wanted €200 million (£173 million) but also a player from Real Madrid in exchange for Sadio Mane.

Real Madrid are preparing a major overhaul in the summer as Zinedine Zidane looks to bolster his team ahead of the new season.

A host of players have been strongly linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. From Eden Hazard to Christian Eriksen not to mention Mane who was subject to interest last summer.

And, according to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, Real Madrid went to Liverpool to talk about an asking price for the Senegalese attacker last summer.

However, Liverpool effectively ruled out the transfer by demanding a staggering amount of money as well as Vinicius Junior.

The report claims Liverpool demanded £173 million and the Brazilian starlet for Mane.

Real Madrid responded to that by saying 'no'.

The 18-year-old has been outstanding for Real Madrid this term, weighing in with goals and assists.

Just like Mane who's also enjoying a superb campaign. He's bagged 18 Premier League goals including his side's opening goal against Chelsea over the weekend.

The ex-Southampton player committed his future to Liverpool by extending his contract until 2023 in November and insists he's 'very happy' on Merseyside.

"Speculation is part of football," he said. "You just learn to live with it and not to take it too seriously.

"All I can say is that my only concern is Liverpool. Mo, Bobby... it seemed like everyone was signing contracts and they were saying: 'Hey Sadio, when are you going to sign?' I said to each of them: 'Don't worry, bro, I will sign'.

"And what did I do? I signed... so they are pleased now!

"I'm very happy here and I think people are happy with me too. We want to write our names alongside the many great ones in the story of this club. Hopefully it's the beginning of something special."
