He expects the absolute optimum...

Pep Guardiola does not tolerate anything but the absolute optimum and proved that again last night with his post-match interview.

Despite City moving another step closer to the Premier League title with a brilliant 3-0 victory at Arsenal following three stunning goals in the first half, he was not satisfied and still demanded improvement from his team.

Immediately, as the players vacated the pitch at half-time, the Catalan was barking tactical instructions at midfielder Ilkay Gundogan instead of basking in what had been a glorious opening 45 minutes.

Guardiola is utterly obsessed with improvement and will not accept anything less than 100 per cent. Thierry Henry, who worked with, and learnt so much, playing under Pep at Barcelona, said so himself on Sky Sports after the match.

According to the Arsenal legend, if Pep doesn't get the absolute maximum from his players in training, he calls it a day.

"I had that feeling when Leroy Sane was standing there I saw myself," Henry said on Sky Sports' coverage.

"He demands 100 per cent in training every single time no matter what the drill is. When you don't do it he stops training and he goes inside. He doesn't accept 99.9 per cent, you have to give him 100 per cent.

"That's why those guys are doing what they are doing it is just brilliant to see that.

"Yes in a way I am upset because Arsenal didn't perform but we are seeing one of if not the greatest teams we've seen in this league in terms of football."

At half-time in the Sky Sports' studio, Jamie Carragher was marvelling at the first-half display from Guardiola's troops and said, "I'd be surprised if Guardiola's Barcelona sides scored three better goals than this."

However, Henry, who won two La Liga titles and the Champions League under the 47-year old, politely disagreed.
