Liverpool's new signing Harvey Elliott has apologised after a video of him calling England captain Harry Kane a "F***ing m**g" emerged on social media.

The clip, taken from the 16-year old's Snapchat after Liverpool beat Spurs in the Champions League final in Madrid, sees Elliott perform an offensive impression of the Tottenham striker - with derogatory language used in the caption.

Elliott was playing for Fulham at the time and has since posted an apology following the video's wide circulation.

Writing on Instagram after playing for Liverpool in a friendly against Lyon last night, Elliott said he is "truly sorry" for his conduct.

"I would just like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused on the back of a video of me currently circulating on the internet," he said.

"The video was taken whilst messing around with friends in a private environment and was not directed at any individual but I realise that my actions were both immature and senseless.

"I would like to stress that the contents of the video do not represent who I am as a person or how I've been brought up, and I am truly sorry."

Elliott made history in May when he became the youngest player ever to play in the Premier League.

Born on 4 April 2003, he entered the fray as a late substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves and broke the previous record set by former Fulham left-back Matthew Briggs against Middlesbrough 12 years ago.

The England Under-17 international did not sign a new contract with Fulham and subsequently joined boyhood club Liverpool on a free transfer.
