Harry Redknapp Is Being Linked With A Shocking Return To Management

He faces competition from a legendary striker for the job, though

According to reports, Harry Redknapp is aiming for a surprising return to football management by applying to succeed Avram Grant as the manager of the Ghanaian national team.

The 70-year-old was believed to be retired after stepping down as QPR manager in February 2015, although he did oversee two games as manager of Jordan, last year, defeating Bangladesh 8-0 before losing to Australia 5-1.

However, with Grant stepping down as Ghana boss following the African Cup of Nations in January, Redknapp has reportedly thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant position.

The former Spurs and West Ham boss is facing competition from another familiar face from the Premier League, former Middlesbrough and Derby County striker (and Juventus, obviously) Fabrizio Ravanelli.

A Ghanaian FA source admitted both men were on a five man shortlist, along with with Frenchman Patrice Carteron and Ghanaian duo James Appiah and Karim Abdul Razak.

Redknapp, an FA Cup winning manager with Portsmouth in 2008, may see the job as one final hurrah before properly calling time on his career, with another Premier League job highly unlikely at this stage.

Ravanelli, meanwhile has coached Juventus' youth teams and had a brief stint as Ajaccio manager in France, in 2013.

Could Harry really manage a team without being able to wheel and deal, though?
