Harry Kane Last Minute Goal Gives England A 2-1 Win

Harry Kane's injury time header gave England a 2-1 win in their opening World Cup group game against Tunisia after all had seemed lost.

Two years ago at the Euros in France Roy Hodgson decided that Harry Kane should take corners, a decision that was absolutely atrocious. Just 24 months later and the Spurs forward bagged a winning brace both from corners as England won their opener.

Kane had been named as captain pre tournament and it seemed that Gareth Southgate had no interest in putting the two time Premier League top scorer on set pieces, thankfully.

England started extremely brightly and opened the scoring after 11 minutes. Ashley Young's free kick was headed goalwards by John Stones only for the Tunisia keeper to save it with Kane on hand to turn in the follow up from yards out.

By the time Tunisia won a soft penalty in the 35th minute the Three Lions could have been four or five goals in front but their profligacy and an errant arm from Kyle Walker saw the African's equalise from the spot.

England should have had two penalties of their own either side of the halftime break with Kane speared to the ground at the end of the first half and held inside the area at the start of the second.

As the second half went on frustration began to kick in and though Southgate's men continued to exert pressure the clear chances were becoming less frequent as Tunisia looked to hang on.

The introductions of Marcus Rashford and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, on for Raheem Sterling and Dele Alli, gave England more go forward and the Chelsea man nearly set up the United striker before the call of Jesse Lingard behind him led Rashford to let the ball go.

It was a bad decision but one that ultimately didn't matter. England won a corner in the 91st minute and Kieran Trippier was the man to swing it into the box.

Harry Maguire headed it on towards the back post where Kane was waiting unmarked and headed home to give England their first win in a World Cup opener since 2006.

Scenes, utter scenes!
