Giuseppe Rossi is to return to football after his latest lay-off.

The former Manchester United, Newcastle and Villarreal man has been dropping hints on his social media channels and it's now emerged that he is on the verge of signing for Serie A side Genoa.

The Italian, who has been a free agent for a while after suffering the fifth serious injury of his career seven months ago while on loan at Celta Vigo, has flew in for a medical and could go straight into the Genoa squad if all goes well.

At one stage of his career, Rossi was prolific La Liga side Villarreal. He managed 82 goals in 192 games for the El Submarino Amarillo before moving to Fiorentina, where he played just 44 times in three seasons.

In 2013, he bagged a memorable 14-minute hat-trick that condemned Juventus to their first defeat in Florence for 15 years, but would later be ruled out for five months with another knee injury.

Rossi is a wonderfully gifted footballer but has had horrid luck with injuries, including three separate ACL tears that have left him on their sidelines for lengthy spells.

But remarkably, he has recovered from his latest setback suffered against Eibar in April, and we're absolutely delighted that he's back in football.
