He spoke glowingly of a current Reds star.

Liverpool fans were no doubt in their element a couple of days back when Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard pulled one the red shirt by making a special appearance in a post-season friendly against Sydney FC.

The Reds ran out 3-0 winners in front of 72,000 ANZ Stadium, with goals coming from Daniel Sturridge, Alberto Moreno and Roberto Firmino.

Firmino continued his fine regular season form into the friendly game, registering a gorgeously scooped assist for Moreno's goal as well as scoring the final goal.

And he made a huge impression on Gerrard, who had previously never had the opportunity to play alongside the Brazilian.

Gerrard played with the majority of the current crop of Liverpool players before he left Anfield at the end of the 2014/15 season, though Firmino joined Liverpool two months later in the summer in a £29 million deal from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

The former Liverpool skipper played just over half of the friendly win, and as well as "absolutely loving" the opportunity to be back playing with his beloved Reds, he particularly enjoyed linking up with Firmino.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo after the game, he said:

"To play with Firmino, especially, was an absolute pleasure.

"I would have loved to have played with him for a couple of years. He's a very intelligent footballer. He's on that same wavelength - he sees things.

"There are players and there are levels and he's absolutely top level."

If Gerrard, in his prime, was playing in the same side as Firmino on a regular basis, than one would expect the 25-year old's goal bonuses to be even more incredible.

Back in December, German journalist Michael Reis, who writes for BILD, got his paws on some information on the Liverpool No.11's contract.

He reported that Firmino would be entitled to several payments once he scored a certain amount of goals (excluding penalties) in the Premier League, Europa League, or Champions League for the club.

His first five goals in the 2016/17 season saw him rewarded with a £25,000 pay-out every time he found the net, and it got even better when he got a massive £45,000 bonus for goals between 6 and 10.

Firmino scored a total of 12 goals for the campaign, with 11 coming in the Premier League and one in the League Cup back in August. Because of the nature of his contract, it means he received one payment of £65,000 as part of the deal for goals between 11 and 16.

It was also reported as part of the 'Football Leaks' series that Firmino also received hefty sums whenever he registered an assist.

As SPORTbible noted earlier this monthnoted earlier this month, for laying a chance on a teammate who then found the net, Firmino allegedly pocketed an incredible sum of £190,000 for six assists. His bonus tally got even better when he ended the season with an assist in the 3-0 final day win over Middlesbrough that secured Champions League football for Jurgen Klopp's side next season.
