N'Golo Kante is probably one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, but Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has been using him differently.

Kante's glittering resume which includes two Premier Leagues, an FA Cup and the World Cup with all four trophies being won with his deployment in a defensive midfield position.

Since Sarri's arrival, his summer signing Jorginho has occupied that position, with Kante being deployed in a more attacking capacity, leading to his impact on the pitch being limited.

While Chelsea were unbeaten, this detail had been constantly overlooked due to Sarri's side still getting results.

However, following Chelsea's 3-1 defeat to Tottenham at the weekend, pundits began to question Jorginho's deployment in holding midfield ahead of Kante.

In his column for The Sun, Alan Shearer also spoke on the situation, saying, "Kante is the best defensive midfielder in the world bar none. Jorginho is not in the same class.

"Kante is wasted playing where he did against Spurs, higher up the park and to the right. He is not an attacking midfielder.

"Sarri responded on Wednesday prior to Chelsea's Europa League tie against PAOK, saying he preferred Jorginho or Cesc Fabregas in the central role. I think, as you know, I want to play a central midfielder as a very technical player - a Jorginho or Fabregas," Sarri stated, per football.london.

"I don't want Kante in this position. Kante, in the last match, wanted to solve the match after the first 15 minutes but in the wrong way."

Despite Sarri's reasoning making sense in relation to the way he likes his team to dictate the tempo of a game, some have been angered by his explanation.

Gary Lineker, who watched Kante win the Premier League with his beloved Leicester City, responded on Twitter and Chelsea fans will hope Lineker's comments do not resonate with the Frenchman.

The former England man said: "He may have signed a new contract, but given this nonsense, it could be worth a large bid from any club who wants to win things."

Despite the recent controversy, the 27-year-old is still a prominent feature in Chelsea's side and recently signed a new five-year deal, so he looks to be staying at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future.
