Ole Gunnar Solskjær Needs To Buy New House In Manchester Thanks To Virgil Van Dijk

While Ole Gunnar Solskjær is reportedly set to become the next permanent Manchester United boss, Virgil van Dijk has had the last laugh!

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has a hit a slight (and awkward) snag after he can't move back into his Cheshire mansion because Virgil van Dijk now lives there.

Yes, that happened. The Manchester United caretaker manager had been put up in the Lowry Hotel when he succeeded José Mourinho at Old Trafford in December.

With more and more speculation continuing to suggest that the 46-year-old Norwegian will be appointed to the position permanently, it would seem that he isn't going to take a page out of the Special One's book and spend at least 127 weeks in the five-star hotel.

The ex-Red Devils forward owned a five-bedroom mansion in Cheshire, which was worth £4m, during his playing days in Manchester, but he put it up for sale when he thought a return to the city for the long term would be unlikely.

Enter van Dijk, who was property hunting when he made the switch from Southampton to Liverpool in 2018.

According to the Sun, the 27-year-old Dutch centre-back decided to rent Solskjær's property.

Unsurprisingly, it's not like Solskjær can simply eject the Liverpool star from the property, especially as there is a tenancy agreement already in place.

An unnamed source told the newspaper: "The property is the one Ole and his family lived in since his time at United and when he moved away it was eventually put up for sale.

"But when no takers came it was offered for rent -- and when Van Dijk signed for Liverpool he came to see it and loved it.

"Ole probably never thought he would be coming back to Manchester, but now he is, it really is ironic he can't move back into his old place which he still owns.

"There are a few grins from people who know that Van Dijk is the tenant -- a player for one of United's fiercest rivals!"

The Sun also claims that Solskjær has apparently 'shaken hands' with United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward over becoming the new permanent manager.

ESPN reported last month that the caretaker manager is the sole candidate to become the next permanent boss.

Where will United finish in the Premier League this season?
