Xabi Alonso will manage the Real Madrid youth team, a Spanish outlet can reveal.

The news comes just before Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane held a press conference and shocked the world by announcing he will leave the club, after three seasons in charge.

The Frenchman did not ever going through a season without winning the Champions League - what an unbelievable record to hold.

Alonso moved to Real Madrid from Liverpool back in 2009 and he enjoyed great success there before moving to and retiring at German outfit Bayern Munch.

His time there was a great success. He won five domestic trophies, including three Bundesliga titles.

But he will now coach the youth side at Real Madrid, with the Spaniard finishing his UEFA's Elite coaching course at the Ciudad de Futbol de Las Rozas this Friday, according to Spain publication Marca.

Also on the course are Spanish legends Xavi Hernandez, Victor Valdes and Joan Capdevila and Raul, all of who will be looking for work upon its completion.

It's thought that his appointment at Valdebebas shouldn't impact the jobs of former players Solari and Guti. They will continue their work with the youth team for another season at least.

Alonso should be a welcome addition to the academy. In his prime, he was one of the greatest players on the planet, able to ping a pass with bulls-eye precision from 60 yards.

The player who moved from Real Sociedad to Liverpool also had an eye for goal from long-distance. Newcastle United and Luton Town suffered at the hands of his distance strikes.
