Liverpool Cancel Friendly With Mönchengladbach As Punishment

Liverpool have reportedly cancelled their pre-season game Borussia Mönchengladbach, after the Bundesliga side kept pursuing Reds youngster Rhian Brewster.

The German side have taken a keen interest in the Liverpool player and this has led the Reds to cancel their upcoming pre-season match with Gladbach, as a warning to them over their conduct.

And many are pointing out the hypocrisy in Liverpool doing this and throwing their toys out the pram. Famously, the Reds chased defender Virgil van Dijk for some time, with the Dutch international even reportedly refusing to train with this then side Southampton over the move which turned into a saga.

Many have been quick to point this out on social media.

Brewster is a highly-rated striker who has represented England at Under-16, Under-17, and Under-18 level.

With the Under-17s, Brewster scored a brilliant 20 goals in 22 games for the national side, a remarkable amount that saw him lift the Golden Boot of the Under-17s World Cup. It's no wonder that Gladbach have been hot in their pursuit of the 18-year-old.

Liverpool might be cancelling a game with the Germans, but their concerns will be with their upcoming fixture, the Champions League final against Real Madrid, a team who have won the competition three times in the past five years.

It will be Mohamed Salah, a man who has scored 44 goals in 51 games during his phenomenal inaugural season at Anfield, versus a certain Cristiano Ronaldo, the man seemingly addicted to constant victory.
