Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas has secured himself a place in the Guinness World Records 2019 after breaking a new record.

The 31-year-old Spaniard has now become the fastest player to reach 100 assists in the Premier League, marking the milestone on his 293rd match.

He completed his 100th assist in Chelsea's 4-2 win over Stoke City in 2016 and now holds the record ahead of former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs, who reached that same feat in 367 matches.

The former Barcelona player set his other record on Sky 1's A League of Their Own in July 2017, making an appearance alongside Jamie Redknapp and is the co-holder of the 'most volley passes in 30 seconds by a pair' with 15.

"I'm not the fastest, I'm not the strongest, I'm not the most flexible, I don't jump high," he said. "But to achieve this record in my career is one of the proudest things in my job, because it is my job and I did it well.

"In the middle of training, I'd just had my mouth open. I couldn't believe what I was seeing [at Arsenal]. The first touches of Dennis Bergkamp, the finishing of Thierry Henry, the presence of Patrick Vieira, I was very fortunate."

Fàbregas played for Arsenal from 2003 until 2011 and made over 200 appearances for the club. He completed a move to Barcelona in 2011, having been a former youth product from the famed La Masia.

The former Gunners star ended his time at the Camp Nou in 2014.

The Blues midfielder has had an accomplished international career with Spain, playing his part in the national team's trophy-winning exploits at Euro 2008 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

"It was not the most beautiful, not the most amazing assist. But a simple pass broke the line... and it got us the World Cup," he said.

Other records in the GWR 2019 edition include the following:

  • Mo Salah: most goals in a Premier League season (32) and most games scored in during a Premier League season (24).
  • Harry Kane: most Premier League goals scored in a calendar year (39) and most Premier League hat-tricks in a calendar year (6).
  • Manchester City: most points (100), most wins (32), most goals (106) and most consecutive wins in the Premier League (18).
