Sunderland Player Finally Turns Up To Training After Refusing To Return

Most people worry about turning up to work late by a couple of minutes, but imagine missing 72 days? You probably wouldn't show your face again - but that doesn't apply for everyone, though.

Enter Sunderland defender Papy Djilobodji, who has been missing from the club since May and has finally reported for training at the Academy of Light, according to Roker Report.

Press Association

The 29-year-old wanted a move away from the Black Cats and refused to show up for the pre-season training. Considering the transfer window for Europe has closed and he wasn't able to sign for a new club (tough break, eh?), Djilobodji has returned to face the music.

The defender earns £33k a week at the club, though that payment hasn't been coming through due to his actions. In fact, it might seem that it's not going to be a pleasant welcome back to Sunderland for Djilobodji.

Press Association

The club is planning to take action against the player for breaching his contract with them, mainly for how his value has completely plummeted.

It was former manager David Moyes who brought Djilobodji to the club in 2016 for £8m. He spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Dijon, but it might seem that playing in France's top division could have changed his mind about coming back to Sunderland.

Press Association

It's only going to become worse for Djilobodji. Apparently, the club will allow him to return and train, but it won't be with the first team and the club owners don't want to see him playing for Sunderland again.

Sunderland are not done there. Nope. They plan to hold his wage while they look into every legal action they can take against the player.

It looks like Djilobodji is not the only player that will be made an example of. The club will slam the hammer down in the same ruthless style on midfielder Didier Ndong if he shows back up for training.

Well, it seems like Djilobodji better much embrace his future in exile.

Do you think the club is taking the right course of action?
