Fans have made their feelings perfectly clear about David de Gea after a poll showed how many want him dropped as Spain's number one.

The Manchester United shot-stopper has had an up-and-down season and once again been linked with a move away from the club in the summer.

Diario AS ran a poll that asked fans who they would prefer to be between the sticks for Spain: de Gea or Kepa Arrizabalaga.

With more than 23,000 fans voting, the 24-year-old Chelsea shot-stopper won by a landslide after taking home 91.69 per cent of the vote.

De Gea, on the other hand, took only 8.21 per cent of the vote.

Chelsea broke the world-record transfer fee for a 'keeper last summer when they signed Kepa for €80m from Athletic Bilbao.

The 24-year-old Spaniard, who has been capped for his country, has made 36 appearances for the club, but he did find himself on the receiving end of fierce criticism for his refusal to come off in the EFL Cup final against Manchester City in February.

However, many Chelsea fans will feel that Kepa had redeemed himself earlier this week in the Blues' Europa League semi-final clash against Eintracht Frankfurt, saving two penalties in the shootout and setting up an all-English final against Arsenal.

While de Gea's form has been questioned this season, the Spaniard's former goalkeeping coach, Frans Hoek, recently said that the United 'keeper plays at a high level and could play for Barcelona or Manchester City.

"I worked with him for two years at Manchester United and I must say he's at a really high level," he told Marca.

"It's not easy to play three games a week as is demanded in England and maintain a high level.

"Particularly when anyone can beat anyone there. But he does it.

"That's why it's unusual to see him make mistakes at international level. De Gea could play for Barcelona or City because playing with his feet is among his many qualities."
