Russia's Vladimir Granat Now Owns One Of The Worst World Cup Records

One to tell the grandkids...

Russia's Vladimir Granat is now responsible for a truly dreadful World Cup record.

Attained in the 1-1 draw with Spain in the round of 16, which saw the hosts progress on penalties, Granat had a bit of a stinker despite his country going through to the quarter finals.

Having replaced Yuri Zhirkov at half-time, the Rubin Kazan defender played 75 minutes as the game went the full distance.

But incredibly, the 31-year old didn't even manage to complete a single pass during his time on the pitch. With Spain dominating the ball for large spells and Russia defending deep, Granat touched the ball just 11 times and attempted 5 passes - none of which ended up in the path of a teammate.

Of course it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things as Russia still won and set up a quarter final game with Croatia, but a professional footballer not completing a single passes is absolutely mental.

We live in a world where a Russian defender didn't kick the ball to a teammate in his entire time on the pitch, yet finds himself just a couple of games away from a World Cup final.

Football, bloody hell.
