Fabio Quagliarella is now level with Cristiano Ronaldo as the top scorer in Serie A this season after he bagged himself a brace against SPAL.

The 36-year-old Italian forward has been in blistering form for Sampdoria this season. Ahead of kick-off, he had already scored 17 times and registered six assists.

With his brace against SPAL, however, Quagliarella has now scored 19 times and is level pegging with Ronaldo for the top scorer's crown.

Of course, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid ace could move ahead of Quagliarella if he scores against Napoli, who host Juventus at the San Paolo on Sunday.

The race to become Serie A's top scorer has continued to heat up, with Krzysztof Piątek currently in third place.

The AC Milan star, who was signed from Genoa in the January transfer window for a reported fee of €35m, made an instant impact at his new club when he scored on his debut.

With Piątek scoring 13 times for Genoa and five times for I Rossoneri, the 23-year-old Polish forward was recently named in the best Serie A XI for the season so far ahead of Ronaldo and Quagliarella.

Other names in contention for Serie A's top scorer include Atalanta's Duván Zapata (on loan from Sampdoria), who is on 16, while Napoli's Arkadiusz Milik has 14 to his name.

Who will finish as the top scorer in Serie A this season?
