1-6 and 1-4. Two of Manchester United's embarrassing home Premier League defeats in recent memory.

But before cross-town rivals City trounced their neighbours at Old Trafford, Liverpool rocked up to Manchester in 2009 and secured three points with a stunning victory.

Goals courtesy of Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Fabio Aurelio and Andrea Dossena helped Liverpool record a famous win against Manchester United.

But, despite the defeat, United still won the league title. Sir Alex Ferguson galvanized his charges, eventually winning the coveted trophy by four points pipping arch rivals Liverpool.

While it's a game to quickly forget, it remains etched into Patrice Evra's memory following the reaction from the United faithfuls.

"My best memory with the United fans, where I say these fans are so loyal and they give everything for the player, is when we were losing 4-1 at Old Trafford against Liverpool," Evra told Stephen Howson.

"When we came off the pitch and all the United fans were singing 'United, United' I remember getting into the dressing room and Ferguson said to all of us 'Guys, did you hear that? We should win the league for them'.

"And I remember we were seven points behind, and in the end we won the league.

"That league title was especially for United fans because they were behind us in every moment. Not only the good moments, but also the difficult moments," the former United left-back added.

Evra enjoyed another five seasons with United after that Premier League winning year. And he would hold aloft the Premier League trophy on two more occasions before ending his association with the club in 2014.

After a stint in Italy with Juventus, Evra now plies his trade at Marseille though he's still revered as a United hero.
