Mason Holgate could be in some serious trouble after a couple of alleged homophobic Tweets have surfaced from his account.

He's facing a potential misconduct charge from the FA after they've opened an investigation, per The Times.

The Everton youngster was the talk of the FA Cup tie against Liverpool following the role he played in conceding the penalty, not to mention being involved in a bitter spat with Roberto Firmino.

Before getting into a heated bust-up with the Brazilian, he was adjudged to have fouled Adam Lallana in the box with James Milner converting the penalty.

But the main talking point of the third round fixture was the exchange between him and Firmino.

And Holgate has once again found himself in the spotlight following homophobic tweets emerging.

The above Tweets were posted in 2012, and have been deleted, though the FA have launched an inquiry with the matter now in the hands of the disciplinary department.

Amidst the controversy, Holgate has also deleted his whole Twitter account.

If found guilty, the 21-year-old could face a suspension and a fine.
