Angel di Maria has regularly been linked with a move to Inter Milan, who are somehow continually interested in some of the elite level players in world football despite their fall from grace in recent years.

And according to reports in Italy, Inter's interest in di Maria has stepped up a whole new level now and they are preparing a hefty offer for the Paris Saint-Germain star.

Under new boss Luciano Spalletti, there is optimism that Inter can get closer to the level they reached on a frequent basis when they were one of the titans of Italian football, and European football on the whole, a few years back.

The signing of di Maria, undoubtedly one of the most talented attacking players in the world, would be a huge sign that Inter, like their city rivals AC, mean business going into next season.

Italian outlets Tuttosport and Mediaset Premium say a 50 million euros bid will soon be tabled, with 40 million upfront and the remaining 10 million paid in due course if certain add-ons and bonus clauses are reached.

It's noted in the report that Inter's owners are looking to cover the hefty cost of the deal with the help of club partners such as sponsors and marketing agreements.

In terms of wages, the 29-year old would have to take a small pay-cut from 11 million euros to 7.5 million per season if he desires to play in a fourth European league and accept the four-year contract on the table should PSG accept the offer.

Di Maria is certainly no stranger to big money deals in his career.

He joined Real Madrid from Benfica in 2010 for a fee of 25 million euros and enjoyed his best season in 2013/14 playing in a midfield three under Carlo Ancelotti, producing a Man of the Match display in the Champions League final 4-1 win over Atletico Madrid in Lisbon.

The Argentine sealed a £59.7 million move to Manchester United in the summer of 2014 and became the club's most expensive signing. But after initial promise under Louis van Gaal, Di Maria failed to settle and was offloaded to PSG after a season for £44 million.

His experience in Paris has been much more fruitful than in Manchester, having won Ligue One in his first season, as well as the two French domestic cups.

The Rosario central youth product failed to taste league title success last season as PSG lost out to Leonardo Jardim's exciting Monaco side, but again got his hands on the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue successes.

Di Maria's contract at the Parc Des Princes runs until 2019.
