Scottish football has a knack for throwing up all sorts of madness, ranging from Sky Sports being duped into thinking Aberdeen had signed a player called 'Yerdas Selzavon', to a Queen of the South goalkeeper being injured by a runaway cow last season.
The latest incredible footballing story to emerge from Scotland saw Dundee FC midfielder Paul McGowan become the talk of the town on social media after being spotted wearing an electronic tag around his ankle during his side's 2-1 defeat to St Mirren on the opening weekend of the new SPFL season.
The 30-year old, who made eight appearances for Celtic, has had five run ins with the law in eight years - including attacking two police officers and a community support constable years apart.
His latest conviction was for spitting at a bouncer outside a nightclub in Dundee following the club's end of season awards in May.
McGowan was again spared jail but given 200 hours of unpaid community service, forced to pay his victim ยฃ200 as compensation and being placed under supervision for a year.
The tag comes with a curfew that will restrict him from playing in midweek evening fixtures for Dundee, as was the case in 2015 when he was ordered to be home for 7pm every day.
