Cristiano Ronaldo has been hit with a five-game ban for his conduct during last night's Spanish Super Cup first leg win over Barcelona at the Nou Camp last night.

The Real Madrid forward was subbed on in the 58th minute, scored an absolute screamer in the 80th minute and two minutes later was sent off for an alleged dive.

Ronaldo might have smashed in a cracking effort from 25 yards out, but seconds later, the Portuguese international was booked for his elaborate celebration.

Fast forward another two minutes and the former Manchester United man tumbled under the challenge of Samuel Umtiti just outside the box and was consequently given a second yellow, and sent off for diving.

Before vacating the field, the four-time Ballon d'Or winner pushed the referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, and has now been banned for five games, as well as fined a mere €3,000 for his behaviour.

In his full-time report, de Burgos, the man in the middle explained the incident in further detail, saying: "After being shown the red card, the player pushed me gently to show his dissent,"

It states in the Code of the Spanish Football Federation that any player who "catches, shoots or shakes" a referee in a manner perceived to be violent risks a suspension anywhere between four and 12 matches.

Five games is the elected sanction for Ronaldo, who will miss the Spanish Super Cup second leg at the Bernabeu next week, along with four further La Liga fixtures against Deportivo La Coruna, Valencia, Levante and Real Sociedad.

Real Madrid have a 10-day window to appeal the ban.
