When Newcastle United announced that they were officially up for sale, some people actually thought that the great man himself, Vince McMahon, was going to buy the Premier League outfit.
Current Magpies owner Mike Ashley revealed that he was ready to sell the club he bought back in 2007, with a deal that was reported to be 'hopefully' concluded before Christmas.
As we all know, that never happened.

Ashley's has been a pretty tumultuous reign, but it seemed the club's supporters didn't want a quiet, understated owner - as plenty mentioned the often outrageous WWE owner Vincent Kennedy McMahon.
The billionaire wrestling promoter was linked with buying Newcastle several years ago on social media, but other than donning the odd black and white referee jersey, nobody seems to really know where the link came from.
That didn't stop Vince from being mentioned at the time:
Being honest, good old Vinny Mac is a bit busy running WWE and barely ever sleeping so there's probably "No chance in hell" of it happening.

But we're enjoying the world's of football and wrestling coming together, and really, really hope that we see Vince revealing himself as the higher power behind a takeover bid for Newcastle.
However, fans of the Attitude Era in 2001 will know that it will probably all result in son Shane McMahon's name being on the contract, as it was in storyline when WWF purchased rival company WCW to put an end to the Monday Night Wars back in the day.
