Lionel Messi is still yet to win an international trophy...

Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino scored the goals as hosts Brazil knocked out Argentina in the semi-finals of the Copa America in Belo Horizonte.

Jesus opened the scoring in the first half with a well-struck finish from Firmino's pin-point cross and the Manchester City striker repaid the favour when he burst past three Argentina defenders before laying it on a plate for the Liverpool man to add a second in the second half.

The deserved win for Brazil sets up a final with either Chile or Peru on Sunday, while inflicting more international tournament misery for Lionel Messi.

The Barcelona star may be one of, if not the greatest footballer that has ever played our great game but he is still searching for his first trophy with Argentina after nine unsuccessful attempts.

In all truth Lionel Scaloni's side were incredibly fortunate to get out of the group to begin with but ended up reaching the semi-finals following a 2-0 over Venezuela in the quarters.

But while Messi himself wasn't at his best, scoring once (a penalty) and not managing an assist in the tournament, you can't help but feel he deserves better when you look at the state of Argentina's defending for both goals tonight.

It does seem as though the five-time Ballon d'Or winner and international trophies aren't meant to be and it's hard to see it changing anytime soon.
