Barcelona have reportedly beaten fierce rivals Real Madrid to the signing of a highly rated striker.

The reigning La Liga champions have revealed that they are already planning for life without Lionel Messi, with the club landing Frenkie de Jong from Ajax last month for a reported fee of £65m.

According to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (via Sport), Barça have reached an 'agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt' over the signing of Luka Jović.

The 21-year-old Serbian striker is currently on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt from Benfica, but the German newspaper reports that Barça are in talks with the German club on the fact that they can make the loan deal permanent at the end of the season.

It's reported that he would arrive at the Camp Nou in the summer, spending the rest of his loan spell with Die Adler.

Jović has made a blistering start to the season so far, with him being the top scorer in the Bundesliga ahead of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and Borussia Dortmund ace Marco Reus.

The Serbia international has made 41 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt since his arrival in 2017, scoring an impressive 22 times for his club.

Barcelona and Los Blancos were not the only two European clubs interested in Jović.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich were linked with the Eintracht Frankfurt star and had been keeping tabs on him.

However, the Bavarians might have ended their interest after they secured the signing of a wonderkid.

Jović's arrival at Barcelona would provide manager Ernesto Valverde with an important backup option for Luis Suárez.

Valverde's men remain at the top of La Liga and are six points clear of Madrid.

Barcelona were held to a 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, with Suárez suggesting that the team "suffered from a lack of communication in the first half."

"We need to address this because we conceded possession a lot and did not talk to each other, because these small details count against us," he told reporters after the match (via Mundo Deportivo and Football Espana).

"We are in the midst of a very heavy fixture schedule and that tipped the balance in Athletic's favour, because they could prepare for the game better.

"Both teams created a lot of chances so I do not know if the draw is the right result, both teams believe they could have won.

"Marc-André ter Stegen's performance? He showed why he is one of the best, he was vital for us."
