Barcelona and Ajax could be on the verge of creating a special relationship going forward after reports suggest that the two clubs are exploring the possibility of collaborating over transfers.

According to Sport, the idea of this relationship emerged during transfer talks over Frenkie de Jong, who signed for the Spanish club in the January transfer window.

So, the arrangement between the two clubs would see Barcelona take precedent over transfers for the young, highly rated players emerging from Ajax.

It's not a simple case of the Dutch side being completely exploited for all of their talent, mainly for how they would have the opportunity to bring in the reigning La Liga champions' players 'who have no place in the first team for reasons of age, but that can give a lot of performance in a league like the Dutch.'

The Spanish newspaper also adds that both sets of managers and sporting directors 'have a very good feeling on a personal level.'

The collaboration between the two could move forward depending on the future of Matthijs de Ligt, who has been linked with a move to Barça in the summer.

Earlier this month, Ajax director of football Marc Overmars admitted that he was a big fan of Barcelona, but he was unsure which club the 19-year-old Dutch centre-back would move to in the summer.

"I love Barcelona, but I do not know what he [de Ligt] will do," he told TV3.

"He is incredible in what he brings us, to be our central defender and captain at his age, he has a huge future."

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has said that the club have an interest in de Ligt.

"Where there is such talent away from Barcelona, we're always looking at them," he told Cadena SER earlier this month.

"It's a topic that will be discussed in our sports planning which begins in March, with de Jong we felt we had to move quickly because there were many clubs that wanted him."

Should de Ligt move to Barça this summer?
