Scary scenes as the roof at AZ Alkmaar's stadium has partially collapsed due to high winds.

Torrential wind in Alkmaar has badly damaged the AFAS Stadion. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the roof collapse as confirmed by the club on social media.

"UPDATE: No injuries when the roof of the AFAS Stadium collapses," they wrote on Twitter.

AZ's Managing Director said: "We are very shocked, but especially happy that no human suffering has taken place.

"No matches will be played in the stadium if the situation is not safe."

The club added: "AZ will consult with the KNVB and UEFA about the locations of the upcoming home matches as soon as possible."

AZ kicked-off their Eredivisie campaign with a victory over Fortuna Sittard last Sunday. The Dutch team are back in action tomorrow when they visit RKC Waalwijk.

Their next scheduled home game is set for Thursday in the Europa League before entertaining Groningen in the league on August 18.
