Antonio Cassano has performed a u-turn on a u-turn with his career decision today.

After a 20-year career that saw him reach some pretty big heights and some equally big lows, the 35-year old moved to Hellas Verona last week in what was likely to be the last move of his career.

But the move looked to have been cut extremely shout when Italian media outlets reported that just eight days after putting pen to paper and looking sharp in pre-season outings, the well-travelled striker was to quit the yellow and blues and retire from football, citing homesickness as the reason.

A press conference held today was expected to see Cassano announce that he was calling it quits, but instead the former Real Madrid striker revealed that he has had a change of heart and he will continue as a Hellas player.

Commenting on his decision, as quoted by AS, Cassano said:

"This morning I had a moment of weakness, but I want to keep on playing. Sometimes I make errors, but I want to win this bet.

"After a year and a half living with my family, I missed my wife and my children. She is my strength, and she said that they couldn't see me not playing football. That made me emotional. I have failed, and I ask forgiveness from everyone.

"Now I want to have the last miracle of my career, I want to have a good season. I still have a lot to offer."

Never change, Antonio. On his day, he's a supremely gifted, technically excellent footballer so here's hoping he can have a successful season with Hellas in Serie A.
