Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is set to be rewarded his fine form this season with a new deal at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has become an integral part of Jose Mourinho's plans this season, making a total of 40 appearances in all competitions.

At the weekend, he produced what may well be his best performance in a United shirt as he completely stifled the threat of Eden Hazard and notched United's second goal in the 2-0 win over league leaders Chelsea.

Hazard did not have a sniff all game and it was largely down to the fact that Herrera was constantly breathing down his neck. It was a masterclass in man-marking.

With United monitoring him for a number of years, Herrera signed for United from Athletic Bilbao in 2014 and has just over a year on his existing deal at the club. - though United do have the option to extend it by a year.

Given his importance to the team, United want to extend his deal and plan to open contract talks before next season.

Chris Wheeler from the Daily Mail reports that Herrera will be offered a new deal that will see his weekly wage go up to £120,000 a week.
