Dani Alves has said he "feels sorry" for Lionel Messi after he failed to guide Argentina to the Copa America final.

Brazil beat Argentina 2-0 thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino to secure a spot in the Copa America final.

International glory continues to allude Messi who slammed refereeing decisions after his side's devastating defeat.

Alves also spoke to reporters following the full-time whistle and he touched on the persecution of Argentina's talismanic captain.

"Being the best player in the world must be difficult. If we lost yesterday, the whole team would have been guilty, but in Argentina everything is Leo's fault. I feel sorry for him," he said.

Messi launched a scathing rant about the officials as he blasted the "bulls**t" refereeing decisions.

"They were not better than us," the 32-year-old said. "They found the net early and the second goal came from a penalty [to Sergio Agüero] they didn't award.

"They [the officials] had booked a lot of bulls**t, but they didn't even check the VAR, that's incredible.

"That happened all over the game. At the first glance of contact, they ruled in their [Brazil's] favour and this kind of bulls**t distracted us from the game.

"There is no excuses for us, but we need to review this, analyse it and let's hope CONMEBOL does something about it.

"I think we played a great game. We made a great effort and they were not superior to us."
