FIFA has revealed that almost half of the world's population tuned in for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

According to a report from Publicis Media Sport & Entertainment, an estimated 3.57 billion people watched the tournament at some point.

When it came to the final between France and Croatia, over one billion people watched the match.

England's semi-final encounter with Croatia was the second most-watched match of the competition, while France vs Belgium in the semi-final came third and Spain vs Russia in the round of 16 came fourth.

Philippe le Floc'h, the chief commercial officer for FIFA, believes that "fans everywhere are insatiable for world-class football."

"These figures really do support the claim that Russia 2018 was the best World Cup ever," he explained.
