Ron Atkinson was sacked as Manchester United boss in November 1986. A team that had once thrived under former manager Sir Matt Busby, club supporters were yearning for the Red Devils to climb back to the top of England's premier domestic league. Enter Sir Alex Ferguson, who became United boss 32 years ago today.

That's right, the 76-year-old Scotsman left Aberdeen for United after a stint that saw him lift multiple trophies with the club, including the Scottish Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

At United, though, he faced his toughest test to date. After coming very close to being sacked -- and saved thanks to a 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup in 1990 -- the former Aberdeen boss fought back hard and ushered in a dynasty at United.

He won an incredible 38 trophies during his time at Old Trafford, which included 13 Premier League titles, two Champions League titles and five FA Cups.

That's not to mention the plethora of talent that he signed and also brought through the youth academy, ranging from Paul Scholes and David Beckham to Cristiano Ronaldo and Eric Cantona.

Ferguson retired in 2013 after winning his final Premier League title with the club.

And like most other story, the rest is now history.

Oh, how United fans must miss seeing his face in the dugout at the Theatre of Dreams.
