Frank Lampard Fails To Pick Didier Drogba In His Chelsea Champions XI

It's still a rather brilliant team!

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard played alongside Didier Drogba for the best part of a decade at Stamford Bridge, but the big Ivorian striker hasn't done enough to make Lampard's 'Champions XI'.

The former England international was asked to select the best eleven from the Blues' current crop of title winners and his Premier League champions of 2005.

From Antonio Conte's side, Player of the Year N'Golo Kante made the cut alongside Eden Hazard, while Cesar Azpilicueta is the freshest face in an ageing back line, but perhaps the most surprising decision was leaving Drogba out in favour of Costa.

Drogba is regarded as one of Chelsea's greatest-ever players, having scored 164 goals for the club, nine of which came in cup finals, but Lampard explained via the Evening Standard:

"If you ask me for the best players in teams over a period of time, Didier Drogba's in there every day of the week.

"The first year Chelsea were successful, but as years went by, Didier always produced. He improved he always produced in the big games.

"Costa has been fantastic this year, if we're directly looking at that first year, Didier played some games, Eidur Gudjohnsen played some games, so for the consistency of this season, I'd go with Costa."

For the record, Lampard's entire team was: Cech, Azpilicueta, Terry, Carvalho, Gallas, Kante, Makelele, Robben, Lampard, Hazard, Costa.

What do you think of his selection? Surely Drogba must feel disappointed at being left out?

Who would be in your team?
