There's no better way to look forward to the new year than looking back on old times. Thankfully someone's done the hard work for us and voted on the best 90s football XI, hook the nostalgia to my veins.
There are some in and around football, because why not use the best cliche in the game, that will tell you that football in the past was better than today and with the rise of racism in the stands maybe they'll get their wish to return it to those days. I kid of course...
Whilst the football may be slicker and more easy to consume these days there is still a very good place for nostalgia, especially when it comes to the 90s.

That decade gave us the start of the Premier League and the Champions League and quite frankly we'd all be lost without those two institutions of the sport now.
With it came a decade of brilliant footballers, Alessandro del Piero, Alan Shearer, Pavel Nedved, Francesco Toldo, Roy Keane, Edgar Davids- all these players didn't even make a team of the best XI!
Twitter account '90s football' put on a vote to find the best XI and it's full of utter legends:
For each position the account asked for suggestions and then the top four suggestions were voted on by followers.

That was apart from up front where the chaps running the account smartly decided that Ronaldo would instantly be in the team and it was only worth voting for his strike partner.
Imagining Ronaldo and Batistuta upfront together is scary, the only defence likely to stop them is in the team anyway, Maldini and Baresi!
Of course with these things there's plenty of things that could be argued for and against each player and you'll no doubt have your own views.

So who would make your 90s XI?
