Bastian Schweinsteiger's Manchester United Career To Get Another Boost

Bastian Schweinsteiger's Manchester United Career To Get Another Boost

It's been a strange season for Bastian Schweinsteiger.

At the beginning of the season Bastian Schweinsteiger was discarded by Jose Mourinho and it looked like he would never play for Manchester United again but now the German legend is set to become even more important for United.

Schweinsteiger signed for United in the summer of 2015 under his former Bayern Munich boss Louis van Gaal but with form and fitness issues things didn't go too well for the Germany legend in his first season in the Premier League.

If he was hoping things would improve under Jose Mourinho then it seemed he was sadly mistaken. Jose binned him off and didn't pick him in the Europa League squad and had no intention of playing him.

However in late October he returned to first team training and then to a place on the bench, with Morgan Schneiderlin clearly even further down in Mourinho's plans.

And whilst the 32 year old has only made it off the bench so far, in the EFL Cup, the Manchester Evening News are reporting that he will be added to United's Europa League squad in January.

It was thought that the World Cup winner would be heading to America and the MLS in the January transfer window, ahead of their new season in the spring, but now it looks like he'll become increasingly important for Mourinho.

As the Manchester paper reports the Red Devils have so far played 23 games this season but could face another 42 with Europa League, EFL Cup and FA Cup commitments to go along with the Premier League in the second half of the season.

United and Mourinho get the chance to update their 25 man squad for the Europa League last 32, and beyond, in January. Usually that's to add new transfers to the squad but with Schneiderlin likely to leave in the winter window it could be Schweinsteiger's time to shine.

Asked if he believed Schweinsteiger would with the squad after the January window Mourinho said, "I do. Unless again the player knocks on our door with a future that he wants to grab with both hands."

It's been an odd season for Schweinsteiger so far and it could be about to come full circle!
