Leaked images of Real Madrid's third kit for the 2018/19 season show the club's iconic badge without the crown.

The European champions will have their traditional white home kit again this season, while the away strip will be black.

But they're going with a more flamboyant bright red third kit for the coming campaign - and the badge could be a potential bone of contention with some.

The Real Madrid badge has been complete with a crown ever since being redesigned in 1941 - two years after the Spanish Civil War.

Previous to that, they had been without the crown for 10 years following the ending of the Spanish monarchy - something that led to the 'Real' part of their name being removed too.

But it's been the same since 1941 - so the club taking the decision to remove the crown for this third kit should come as a surprise, although it could also be seen as a nod towards their early history when the crown wasn't part of the badge.

The strip was leaked by footyheadlines.com earlier today:

It's a very nice strip, but the badge may be a controversial talking point among the more traditional fans of the Spanish giants.

Things are going to very different at the Bernabeu and not just because the lack of a crown. The team who have won three Champions Leagues on a bounce will be without their manager and biggest name from that run.

After the incredible achievement of winning three in a row Zinedine Zidane decided to step down as manager to be replaced by now former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui.

Moments after the final whistle sounded Cristiano Ronaldo said he wanted to leave Los Blancos and he has now joined Juventus. It'll be weird seeing Real without either men and they've now lost their crown too.
